Accelerate Social Impact through Cross-Sector Collaboration

Lawrence Tsang, Chief Financial Officer of Grosvenor Group, Asia Pacific, Shared His Connection With TFHK And experience working with our Fellows.

Lawrence Tsang (Chief Financial Officer of Grosvenor Group, Asia Pacific) first encountered Teach For Hong Kong (TFHK) three years ago as a voluntary consultant, through which he understood and felt strongly echoed with our vision and mission. Yet, only until this year, he first-hand witnessed the operation of our Fellowship Program and truly appreciated how TFHK envisioned to achieve education equity through nurturing future leaders to bring systemic and sustainable impact in the long run.

Lawrence interacted with several TFHK Fellows, who are visionary and passionate young leaders during a student mentorship program. With his championing, Grosvenorhas generously sponsored our Fellowship Program and provided mentorship support to our Fellows. He and his colleagues from diverse functions shed light on the industry and share their personal stories and leadership learnings. Lawrence gives very positive comments about our Fellows, “The Fellows are very thoughtful and professional when delivering their ideas, given that they do not have a lot of work experience. They are very open-minded and eager to seek feedback.”

Beyond the mentorship support,  Lawrence and his teammates, May, Sandra, Eugene, Kylie, and Carina, also engaged in co-developing student learning activities by truly leveraging their expertise. With their experience in real estate construction and management and their Net Zero Commitment, they worked with Fellows to organize a ‘Dream Community Project’ that helps students grasp the concepts of sustainable development. Also,  they were closely involved in an inter-school business case competition among several TFHK partner schools, where they offered feedback on students’ analysis and presentation preparation and, of course, served as the judge in students’ final presentations. Lawrence mentions that “The students and Fellows are genuinely interested in learning from us.”, and his team had very pleasant experiences working with our Fellows.

Lawrence believes that people skills and a proactive attitude are essential qualities for an ideal candidate in the job market. With technological advancement, employers like himself focus more on recruiting individuals with the ability to collaborate and initiate given that certain technical skills will be replaced by robots and algorithms. Lawrence places high confidence on our Fellows that they can excel in their careers and continue to create positive impact as he has seen the qualities exuded from our Fellows.

Lawrence encourages our Fellows to make good use of the one-year experience, be bold and continue to endeavor for their impact-making journey. Meanwhile, TFHK will strive to provide diverse experiences to students through cross-sector collaboration.
